A couple of months ago, my husband pointed out to me that the names of people listed as the senders of spam are...interesting. I'd never noticed this before, as I get so much through my university account, that I just trashed everything without looking. But ever since then, I have become obsessed. I feel like I should hold some kind of competition for the best name. There could be prizes for people who actually have spam names (and can prove it with a birth certificate). I regularly and inadvertently throw out e-mail from a listserv I subscribe to because it comes from Ebony Vincent. She should definitely enter the contest. Also, it should be noted that people with the last name of Martinez have a slight edge in this competition. The name "Martinez" is definitely overrepresented among spam-senders. There could also be prizes for those who can invent the best names in the spam idiom.

Then again, maybe I should write a novel where all the characters' names are taken from spam.
