How AJ spent President's Day 2006

Earlier today AJ was playing with his wooden United States puzzle. He likes to take the pieces out of the frame and assemble them freehand on the carpet. Then he flips over the frame and studies the state facts on the back.

AJ: (reading off the back of the puzzle) The population of Illinois is 12, 419,000.

Harriet: Thats a lot of people.

AJ: (looks back at the puzzle and points to the population of Illinois) Youre one of those.

Harriet: Yes, I am.

AJ: Are you number 21?

Scene: Kitchen of the Harriet Household. Harriet is washing the lunch dishes. AJ suddenly sprints down the stairs and pokes his head through the kitchen doorway.

AJ: Mommy, can I draw a picture?

Harriet: Sure.

[AJ runs away. A few minutes later, he comes back, waving a piece of paper in his hand.]

AJ: Look! I drew a picture of a guy yelling, Help!

Harriet: Very nice. Why is he yelling, Help!?

AJ: (cheerfully and without missing a beat) Because hes being eaten by a snake.

[Exit AJ, at top speed.]
