Play ball!

Life is starting to settle into a summer schedule, so maybe I'll calm down and stop freaking out about every little thing. Although routine can make me crazy -- I am a person who once selected an apartment in part based on the multiplicity of possible commuting routes -- the complete absence of routine unnerves me. I've been very crabby the last week. Although that is due, largely, to the fact that I've had almost no work time.

But AJ's summer camp begins this morning -- he is there now. And he's very excited because two of his good friends who were in other classes this past year are in his camp this session. We're thinking we should give the teachers some earplugs. The kids were bouncing off the walls this morning.

AJ had a frustrating afternoon at the pool yesterday. He was excited to see The Girl Next Door there, but she apparently taught herself to swim this weekend. AJ is still afraid to pass the shallow end rope, but TGND, a yellow scuba mask strapped to her face, was skimming under the water collecting diving rings from the bottom of the pool just beyond AJ's reach. But AJ and I played catch for a while. I'm hoping his desire to play with TGND might encourage him in his swim lessons, which start in a couple of weeks. Hes nervous about them, but seems less so after I introduced him to the teacher yesterday. We'll see.

The one activity that he thinks about all the time, though, is T-Ball, which begins Saturday. His excitement about the impending T-Ball season reached a peak Sunday when his future coach called and let him know the name of his team The White Sox! He's already planned what he's going to wear to practice (His black Scott Posednik T-shirt with the big number 22 on the back). The fact that the Sox have been letting us down this week has not dampened his enthusiasm. For AJ, it's a dream come true -- he's playing for the White Sox!

[Yesterday's entry was made late in the day. Click back if you missed my rambling reunion wrap-up.]
