It's a long way to Tipperary

The first song to shuffle up on iTunes today was Elliott Smiths Some Song, which contains the line, Its a junkie dream makes you so uptight, Yeah its Halloween tonight and every night.

Perfect for a morning spent making pumpkin bread in anticipation of trick-or-treating parties to come.

This morning at 11, AJ put on the skeleton costume Id finished sewing at 10:55 and we all trooped to Main Street for the annual Chamber of Commerce trick-or-treat. We stood in an enormous line in a stiff breeze and consequently only got four treats before AJ decided he had had enough and we headed for home.

Here is a picture of AJ in his full scary skeleton glory:

And here he is looking like a skeleton who is moonlighting as a cat-burglar:

He spent most of the day looking like the second picture except with assorted smudges of chocolate across his face, which only added to the cat-burglar impression.

In the afternoon, we went to our neighborhoods annual party. AJ had woken up about 4:30, so we made him take a nap before we went. Surprisingly, he slept for a very long time and was consequently extremely cranky when it was time to go. He was nervous about everything as a result. He almost melted down during the costume parade, and he got panicky on the hayride and buried his face into the side of my jacket. But mostly he had fun and the party ended with AJ and two of his friends from kindergarten tearing around the playground and whooping like banshees as the sun started to go down. We all ate dinner in front of Its the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and laughed every time Charlie Brown got a rock in his sack.

2 people said it like they meant it
