Laissez les bons temps roulez! AJ and I are learning about Mardi Gras today. Weve been reading about krewes and King cakes and doubloons. Weve been watching live webcams from New Orleans. Weve been playing zydeco music (Buckwheat Zydecos The Mardi Gras Mambo is a particular favorite of AJs). Mr. Spy is in the middle of his annual Mardi Gras reading of Walker Percys The Moviegoer. Last year around this time my mom and dad were in New Orleans, helping to clear out flood-ravaged homes and rebuild what there was to rebuild. We hear less and less about the flood as time goes by. But an article in todays New York Times on high school marching bands in Mardi Gras parades says that still only a third of area schools are open. Lets all take a minute to remember the victims of the Katrina disaster today, in New Orleans and elsewhere on the gulf coast. Im planning on making a donation to the Red Cross National Disaster Relief Fund today. If youd like to join me, CLICK HERE.
