Oh, you young people are revolting

Scene: Harriet's kitchen. AJ is having breakfast.

AJ: Do you get to pick your job?

Harriet: What do you mean?

AJ: When you grow up, do you get to pick what job you do?

Harriet: Yes, more or less. What do you want to be when you grow up?

AJ: I want to be a scientist who studies the human body.

Harriet: You could do that. When you're in college, you'll probably start trying to figure out what you want to study to get ready for a job. If you want to be a scientist of the human body, then you will probably take biology.

AJ: What's biology?

Harriet: It's the study of life. All kinds of life. Everything from amoebas to gorillas.

AJ: Or maybe I want to be a clothing store employee.

Harriet and Mr. Spy (together and incredulous at the phraseology): A clothing store employee?

Harriet: What makes you want to do that?

AJ: (shrugging) It looks like fun. What do I need to study to do that?

Harriet: Uh, maybe math.

AJ: I like math. I want to do that.
