I'm flattered! Esp considering that I have not been following the flap over Frey and Leroy, etc. Not enough hours in the day to pay attention to the mistakes of others these days so I'm really out of the loop. So, my comments were meant in the general sense and shouldn't be taken to be an opinion on them in particular.

Ok now I miss Northampton! Although I didn't live there, I was close enough. It beats the heck out of Hyde Park.

it makes me really mad when people lie in their blogs, if they don't have a disclaimer that it's part fiction. I have a friend that does this and I hate it. She calls it "creative license." I call it "fronting."

That's a good point, Jen. It bothers me too and I'm not interested in blogs that don't ring true. Wasn't there something about blog fraud in the news a while back? Some girl who was dying of a disease had a blog? Only it wasn't a girl and he wasn't sick? I don't remember the details. On the other hand, one of my favorite bloggers has admitted to keeping herself entertained by inserting the occasional fictional character into the mix. She doesn't have a disclaimer, but neither has she gone to great lengths to hide the matter -- I'm pretty sure she's mentioned it in an entry or two. And to her credit, she does it very well -- I've never been able to figure it out. But even in blogs, there are acceptable fictions, for example, those things we alter to protect our anonymity. At what point do fictions become unacceptable?

if i ever wrote something that got published, i'd have to label it as "mostly true", simply because the human mind tends to reframe events in ways that make more sense to us than what actually happened. for example, my mom talks a lot about how good a person my brother (the felon) is. it makes more sense in her world to believe so (even though he does drugs, drinks and drives, and was convicted of a sex crime), though she does not consciously lie. i would fear writing anything non-scientific and calling it "truth". "mostly true"? well, can't get in trouble for that, i don't think.

Well, I can say for certain that I made up those letters in the essay I posted on Monday. But I take it everyone figured that out, eh?

Responded very truthfully to your meme tag. Your life is far more interesting than mine.

As ever you spoil me and indulge me in the idea that I am, well, capable. I'd seen the meme elsewhere, but as no one tagged me, felt safe. Forgive me for my theft of your "where should I be" moment, OK?
