I've been to NO twice, in December. I can't imagine Mardi Gras!

Your parents work in New Orleans sounds very fulfilling. Bless them for being such wonderful people. PS - My husband and I also met on a blind date :)

After living in NOLA for the past 4 years, I am sorely MISSING Mardi Gras!!!! It's so fun! The parades are very family friendly. I think if you go to the Fr. Quarter at the end of it all, it gets kind of crazy. But a typical parade is full of fun and throws, families all setup along the parade route with their grills and ladders with boxes on top for the little ones to see and catch stuff. People dressed up in costumes to attract attention of those throwing stuff from the floats. And wash it all down with Coffee and King Cake. I miss Mardi Gras!!!

My daughters boyfriends parents along with several members of their church spent their March break as volunteers (their second stint) in New Orleans, doing their bit to clean up the city. The stories they told are horrifying. What is especially disheartening is how little they feel they are doing. What bothers me so much is that it takes foreigners to come and put in the time, when the US government is doing so little for its own people.
