Just wait until the first day of kindergarten! I cried. Bring Kleenex.

She's right -- sending a kid to kindergarten is somewhat akin to sending one to college. I think. It felt that way at the time, anyway. Library story hour -- I think this is what I really missed out on by working at a traditional job when my kids were little, and what I really wish I could go back and do again. There's a whole world of stuff we didn't do -- being around and about in the world. There seems to be something really nice about it. Because all too soon you are confined at work or at school, and life changes. Oh dear.

You have my sympathies with regard to the writing process. I generally need to have a decent idea of what I am going to say before I sit down and begin to write. So, there are slow periods where I do not accomplish much in terms of words on the page. Once I have some idea of the organizational part worked out in my head, I can write it all down. There's this scene in the movie "Finding Forrester" where Sean Connery's tells another character to just type and not think in order to get started on the first draft. I can never be like that for me... perhaps it can only be that way when writing fiction... my head needs to know where I'm going.

Oh, Harriet, thank you. I've been completely unproductive this morning and was really beating myself up about it. Your post reminds me that percolating is as important as writing.
