I love that toy where the balls pop as you push it. I'm glad to hear it went well.

Yeah, that's one of the things that kind of creeps me out about pregnancy but also about pro-lifers - fetuses are really, really selfish and they will weaken and even kill the mother if they are not getting everything that they need. A fetus is totally out for itself. I find this really disturbing - carrying around some life form that will suck the nutrients right out of you - and when you add in a whole bunch of people announcing that they, too, will save the fetus at your expense...it's like jumping into a shark tank. I find the whole idea of pregnancy really horrifying.

Erin -- I shouldn't tell you this, but it really is a bit like being commandeered by an alien being. Very odd. Harriet -- Poor AJ and the popper thing! Welcome to the world of school! I'm glad it went well, though.

Agreed. I remember identifying strongly with Ripley in the Alien movies when I was pregnant. Strangely, though, I wsn't opposed to the arrangement. I'm sure it was the hormones talking. But I felt incredibly lonely for a while after having AJ. I'd gotten used to being a we and there was a definite adjustment going back.

I'm so happy to read that AJ's screening went well and that you're feeling optimistic about his school experience! Hooray!

Harriet... where do babies come from?

Great news. Hey, Katie still plays with baby toys, well, especially since Kristin does now. Did you get my email with the *release* date? I'm sending another one in about three minutes...

Being pregnant isn't all that bad! No, I'm not one of those who LOVES being pregnant, but I thought it was kind of special. I liked the idea that my body was supporting and growing another human being. Yea, the baby will take what it needs from the mother, but putting it in such stark terms misses the bonding experience it also is.

Oh, I loved it to -- it's like you're in the midst of your very own science experiment, which is cool. But also, it's very companionable. I'd do it again in a minute, except I seem to be too old. Pooh.

What Chris said! It's weird and amazing and disorienting and wonderful and painful and I've never felt so good in my life.
