Yes - I was going to mention the class thing but didn't have time. I think what's more apparent, and harder to explain really, is the differences in social class and money: why does so-and-so have a pool and we don't? Why can't we have what they have? Dusty has very little concept of money except that you need it to buy things and we don't have much of it. Hence, we can't buy much. The race issue isn't one. She also notices bi-racial families - this girl is brown but her mother is white, etc. But, the more important thing is that we don't tinge our conversations ("we" in the "all of us" sense, not just me and my kids) with prejudices. Which can sometimes be difficult when we don't realize we harbor them. Also the fat/skinny, short/tall thing - Dusty points out fat people all the time: "He's fat, he must eat a lot of junk food." This from conversations we've had about why WE don't eat junk food, drink soda, etc. And, it's hard for a five year old to understand why it's not polite to point and say things like that out loud, even it's it's "true", it's not nice. Constant vigilance, constant exhaustion, this child rearing!

"I want to be a guy that works at a place." For some reason, that cracked me up mightily. Heh.

One of my good friends had a Catholic parent and a Jewish parent - she was raised Catholic, but then converted to Judaism. So she's Jewish, but still celebrates most Christian holidays, because she grew up doing it. She would be a great candidate for kosher easter egg.

Now that you mention it, underwear is a pretty funny word.
