Some things you cant avoid, but you can deal with the consequences, which is what you did. Youre not an inadequate parent, you merely feel powerless when the things you cannot control threaten to take away what little control you do have. This too shall pass. On a different note, your yard sounds wonderful.

Oh dear. There really is nothing you could have done, and unfortunately, things like that kind of have to happen. Pooh. Sometimes that's kind of part of spring. It's so very lovely that it can kind of ruin itself. It's impossible for humans, who get sweaty and hot and even headachey from all that sudden fresh air, to live up to it. On the other hand, what a good kid to come back to see if he could have another popsicle! I always tend to reward that kind of behavior by saying, "Oh you good kid. Of course you can!" So the extra treat seems completely appropriate to me. But I'm a pushover.

I would have let him have the popsicle too. Unfortunately for him, he asked his dad first.

That sounds very hard. I hope things are calming down a bit.

Things like that cannot be avoided. It's true that timing is everything. Hugs to all!
