I can see how, having put so much time in to your project, it would be hard to let go. You didn't start it with communal effort in mind - you didn't put out flyers and ask for help, so of course it's disconcerting to have your "territory" cultivated by someone else. Maybe if you met her and talked a little you'd feel better about it. What if you left a note under a rock for her to find if she comes back? She must know someone's been doing all that work, and I bet she's curious.

I think you understand what's going on in your mind, even if you don't like it. Not many people can really say that. A) Good for you for taking on that piece of abandoned dirt, B) Good for you for realizing you need to let go of the control, and C) Good for you for inspiring others to also take an interest in their surroundings and to feel an urge to help.
