What does the title of your entry mean? Or, I guess, what do you mean by it??

I think I'm jealous. Katie has now officially eschewed naptime for 'quiet time', but we all know how 'quiet' they really are!

My entry titles sometimes come directly from the entry and sometimes are more of a stream-of-consciousness connection. This one was one of the latter. Yesterday I had been listening to Philip Glass' opera "Satyagraha" based on the Bhagavad Gita. I had also been thinking about what it means for a hunting creature (Mrs. Stein) to have her teeth removed -- forced non-violence. And when I was watching the deer, I was thinking of the resistance of the creatures against the violence of the world around them. I have avoided thinking too hard about my own relation to the violence/non-violence paradigm, but I suspect it has something to do with my perceptions of academia and my concerns for the reception of my dissertation!

Hurrah for feline normalcy. PLayed part of "Koyannisiquatsi" for my class by accident yesterday (long story) and they were not quite sure what to make of it. "Are those monks?"

I'm dying to know how you worked Koyannisqaatsi into class! As for the monks, I always hear the head bonking of the Monty Python monks in the opening section. It makes me giggle.

I'm glad to see that gardens and deer can coexist. Apparently our new yard is full of deer. I don't really want them to eat all our plants, but I'm sort of excited about having them. We live three blocks from a very busy street, by the way. Odd.

I love deer. Such beautiful creatures.
