Ooh, good story. I guess it's not always clear right away. Some of my favorite couple stories are not the storybook kind. In my difficult way, it seems like they are more intentional, you know?

Did he ever tell you why he thought he'd had enough? It reads like a movie - one of those sweet ones that you're almost afraid to admit you liked but that you have on both VHS and DVD hidden away in the back of the cabinet and that you pull out to watch when no one's around because you need a dose of happily ever after. Congratulations.

At the time, he said that he thought we were too different--different backgrounds, different interests, different goals. In some ways that is true, but I didn't agree even then. In the end, he didn't agree either. But he needed time to figure it all out. In retrospect, I think a lot of it has to do with meeting on a blind date. You miss out on contextual clues that way. It takes a long time to figure out the little things that you usually already know before the first date.

I like reading how ppl became a couple. Was going to ask why he thought he'd had enough, but I see you answered it above. Glad you two could work it out ;)
