After years and years of being that teenager in either a red or black bathing suit, I find there is no better way to get into a cold pool/lake/body of water in the morning to teach said lessons than to dive in. Even when I took her highness swimming this summer, I made someone watch her while I went to a place where I could dive in and then swim to where she was. I was never a fan of the high dive, but to this day I love diving.

I was an utter failure in my swimming classes. I never even learned to float. My dad taught me that at a community pool in the summer. As a result, I'm a very poor swimmer, something I rue. There are adult swim classes at the plex. Your story has started me thinking it's not too late to sign up for them.

I wish I remembered how to dive. Elgan, part of what made me think to write about this was that my husband, who never learned to swim either, just had his first post-childhood swim lesson this week. Do it!

I was taught to swim at age two and spent a good part of my early childhood in pools and the Pacific Ocean. I still love to swim - there are numerous public 'swimming holes' in and near Austin - I'm sorry to say that I haven't made very good use of them this year.
