Being married to a funeral director's daughter, I can say this: if you want to do something for N.'s mom, be someone who is willing to show up to visit with a covered dish or casserole three to six months from now. N.'s mom is probably getting a lot of sympathy and support now, but it all fades after a couple months when people move on -- even if those who feel the loss of a loved one the most have not.

I have had that in mind, Dr. Geek. Especially since N's mom told me that her good friend, the one who gave the eulogy at Bob's funeral, who helped nurse Bob, who babysits the boys regularly, is now taking care of her brother who was just diagnosed with cancer, also terminal.
