And, I was just following Lear's lead as far as limericks: http://www.poetry-online.org/limericks.htm - with the last word of the first line being the last word of the last line. Honorable Mention is better than nothing. (sniff). :)

Bach is wonderfully reliable. Even at his worst, he's good.

Excellent choices.

It's true, Lear does do that a lot, if not all the time. But the judges felt that the other way was more challenging, and thus got an edge. But it was close! Also, lemming, you'd think that were true of Bach, but my students don't think so. Most of them can't stand it. They'd rather listen to Tchaikowsky. Oy.

What's wrong with Tschaikovsky? I *like* Tchaikovsky. Of course, I like Bach too, but all Bach would be like eating a peanut butter sandwich without any fluff to lighten it up occasionally. Good job on the limericks, folks!

I didn't mean to imply that Tchaikowsky wasn't likeable. It's just that Bach, to my mind anyway, has more substance. I haven't got a problem with liking Bach and not Tchaikowsky, nor with liking both. But to like Tchaikowsky and not Bach seems wrong somehow. I suppose I just need to get over it. If I could teach only the music I liked, I'd be skipping most of the 19th century altogether. I definitely need to get over that. Part of me is hoping I fall behind enough to skip the lieder class again. I hate teaching lieder. I hate listening to lieder. I can barely tolerate singing lieder.
