I hate winter. And I really hate scraping my windshield.

Beautiful prose. It almost makes your discomfort worthwhile...almost.

Ooh, I can just feel the bite to the air! I don't hate winter, though. Winter means holidays and gingerbread men and mulled wine and skiing and Tuba Christmas and hot cocoa with a good dose of peppermint schnapps.

I'm with you, Tia. I love winter. I'm not sure about Tuba Christmas, though. But I'm willing to be convinced.

I'm not sure about Tuba Christmas either. But Harriet, your writing is excellent. I always look forward to reading it.

Oh, hot cocoa with schnapps -- a memory of a Glee Club party... in your room, as I recall, Harriet. DJ made the hot cocoa with way too much schnapps; it tasted like chocolate toothpaste. Sorry, got distracted there. It felt like winter today here too but your description were much more graceful than the weather outside my door.

"like two small and not-so-aggressive dragons" *** i love that. *** *** *** by the way, i totally acknowledge the disparity between science and non-science academics. even starting in grad school. the lack of financial reward i was thinking of was relative to non-academic scientists, not to academic non-scientists. thanks for making me notice the ambiguity. *** *** i'm here complaining bitterly about yesterday's 88 degrees. hate SoCal. *** but it's good to read your blog. i love winter too. (ask me again when i'm back in the cold...) *** best!

Thanks, everyone. Kelley, was that the Vespers party where we crammed something like 50 people into my room? I think so. And thanks to your reminder, I'm not sure I can brush my teeth tonight. And Manduca, I see I misread your comment, but it's still interesting. And yes, that makes sense.
