This kind of behavior drives me nuts. Sometimes I feel like I might have been raised in the Victorian era for how appalled I am with other people's manners and behavior. But on the other end of the spectrum, I absolutely hate to see kids be harshly reprimanded or punished for just being a kid. I think sometimes parents are so overwhelmed that they either check out or over react.

I have to agree with you. Kids should be kids, but they should also learn to preface everything with "please" and finish with "thank you". Those two social niceties go a long way to getting you what you want.

What?!? Not "Mr. The Spy"?!? It seems so disrespectful to abbreviate...

What about "Sir Mr. The Spy"? Also re: the rowdy kids - children's museums are my least favorite places for many of the reasons you cited. I often wonder if I'm more diligent/aware because it's my job...and perhaps if I were there as a parent, I would let be as blithe about my kids' bad behavior...but I doubt it. Cretinous people raise little cretins. You many quote me on that.

Ah, I thought "The" was your middle name, Harriet.

What, you don't think it's a good idea to give your children complete creative freedom so that they never feel restricted? ;-) I've never forgotten the co-worker who said that her kids went to day care from early on because she didn't want to have to deal with child rearing, just the "fun stuff."
