More power to you! Chess is one of those incomprehensible things. I have a logical mind and like puzzles but something about chess...simply beyond me. We've also got a gingerbread house kit, too, and will probably get to it next weekend. That's more my kind of thing.

I must confess that my attraction to chess is largely aesthetic. I have a gorgeous chess set that my grandfather gave me years ago. He used to work for G3rb3r baby food and it was given to him by Alcoa, the alumninum company with whom he did business. It's brushed aluminum and very sculptural in a 1970s kind of way. I love to have an excuse to have it out.

It sounds like a great book...I am such a know-nothing about chess. Poor Mrs. stein. It's a funny visual, especially as I visualize her clueless confused [usual] look.

I learned how to play chess when I was a kid and I know the moves, but I have no patience for the actual game. My husband taught both our kids to play, and they actually are pretty good. I have some chess stories for you actually.

Poor Mrs. Stein - I'd pay good money for a video of that!! My dad taught me to play chess but I am truly atrocious at it. Enjoy!

I'm not sure I have the patience for chess either, but we shall see. I suspect that AJ will be a similarly impatient opponent, so perhaps it will work. I'd love some chess stories, elgan. I wish I had a video of Mrs. Stein, Kelley, because she was a sticky mad kitty. Although she didn't seem to mind washing it off and she doesn't have any teeth left to rot away from sugar, so it's probalby not too horrible for her. I don't have a picture of the gingerbread house yet, but hope to take some on Friday when I have to try and get some shots of AJ for Christmas cards. We used a kit from Tr@der Jo3's, though. It's a cute little Hansel and Gretel house, complete with children and witch made of sugar and a cat on the roof even sticker than Mrs. Stein.

My son Gabe is a chess player too. Luckily, (since neither me nor his Dad are very good) some parents organized a chess club that has weekly meetings at the school.
