I like your take on it. A lot of people said that to me in college, too - that those were the best years of my life. I disagreed. Still do.

Yaaar! Katie was telling the infamous 'banana / orange' series of knock knock jokes every day at dinner for about a week.

My university years were the best years of my life, up to that point, and then they just got better, but in a different way. I think I'm in my decade now, and I’m on the threshold of entering my sixth. We shall see.

You know, I think I've just reached the age I always was. I FINALLY am beginning to feel comfortable in my own skin. And actually, if you want to delay the dread of turning 40, consider that it's actually the final year of your 30's and that 41 is the first year of the fourth decade. But, 40 has turned out not to be so bad.

Re: Having one's "decade" - I agree with your friend's assessment. And regarding jokes - older charge recently learned the "interrupting cow" knock-knock joke, which is now being parroted by his younger brother, who is just starting to speak. With the younger one, it goes something like this: "kna-kna, who dere indehreaouvdndaflhaerper cow MOO!".
