You sure you don't have an electronic poltergeist?

My daughter bought herself a new MacBook. She loves it.

You've been caught in the cycle my sister and I complain about frequently. The electronics all go bad at once, you buy/repair all at once and then the cycle repeats itself. It is similar to when women live together and eventually synchronize their menstrual cycle. You could try to stagger your replacements and repairs, but eventually those darn appliances find a way to synchronize again. Good luck on the computer front--I know how disabling it can be to do without!

That sucks! I always vote for the new, but there is the cost factor...

Condolences on the latest appliance loss. I hope you're back online soon. Congratulations to Mr. Spy, though. Good for him!

That entry was hilarious. As for your computer woes - good luck with your decisions.

What about buying a used mac? You can get one cheap.

I'd say it depends on how old the original 'puter was and what you use it for. If all you want is a word processor that accesses the Internet, you may be better off buying the replacement, especially if it's less than three years old. If it's more of a dinosaur and you want it for anything visual- imaging programmes, games, etc., (all I really know about Macs is that the best reason to get one is to be a graphic designer or film editor or whatever- the Mac people didn't invent Photoshop for nothing and it seems to be the sort of thing they do best). It's possibly cheaper in the long run to buy new and have the latest everything than buy a piece of relative antiquity that might not have support at all in a few years. I would be wary of getting anything used. In a way it's sort of like buying underwear from a thrift store, you don't know where it's been or what dark nasty things it has done.

Thanks for all your advice and sympathy. I'm leaning towards a new laptop at this point, provided I can get them to dump the data from my old laptop on there for me if it's possible to access it. I know that's something they'll do if they do a repair and I just need to check to see if they'll do the same if I'm replacing the whole machine instead. Stay tuned!
