Good god, they do science fair projects at his age? Not that I doubt *his* abillity - he's clearly brilliant - but I'd rather hoped I wouldn't have to deal with that until at least 5th grade or so!!

Kelley, I think it's pretty unusual. The other schools around here don't even do it. It's kind of a starter fair. The projects aren't judged, although the kids do need to present them to a teacher who gives them a certificate and a ribbon. It's supposed to be a parent-child collaboration (as opposed to regular science fairs where they actually are collaborations but are supposed to be by the child alone!). I personally think it's a great way to get kids interested in science and doing independent research (although the timing kind of sucks for me). We know several other kindergartners who are doing it. The whole school visits the fair during the school day, so the kids are pretty excited about it.
