Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful (re: the pix). What, your hot water heater missed the "appliance death deadline" or something??

The book you're remembering is Fortunately by Remy Charlip - a fave of many kids I know. Also, your photos almost make me miss snow. ALMOST.

That's it, Laura! I'd recognize the cover anywhere. I wish I'd remembered it when AJ was younger. He would have loved it. And Kelley, actually, the water softener was part of the appliance death (after spraying our basement with water) but was put on life support rather than giving up the ghost. But it appears to have heart failure -- its literal pacemaker has given out -- and we're now looking at replacement. Thanks to all for the photo comments. My favorite was the feather photo. You can't really see it at the size I had to post it in, but in the full size version you can see each individual snowflake sitting on top of the feather. I always think of snowflakes as feathery but seeing them in such stark contrast to an actual feather, you can see that they are far more delicate.
