Wow! And to think I KNOW you! Wow. I'm really impressed.

I shouldn't say anything. I know it feels good to be recognized. And it does carry some significance. It means, at least, that your name has appeared in some public records. But the truth is, the Who's Who apparatus is mostly a commercial enterprise that profits by selling volumes to the people who receive these letters. They have all sorts of volumes...Who's Who in Indian Businessmen in America, etc. that allow them to collect as many names as possible. I've received several of those letters that I knew were not deserved. I only responded to the first one, for which I invented lots of memberships and honors to go in my bio.

I was trying to be funny, but apparently I was too subtle. I am fully aware of the racket that is Who's Who. Tucker Carlson wrote a well-titled expose a few years back for Forbes: "Hall of Lame". I am also amazed at the number of times I've seen "Who's Who" on academic c.v.s. But there it is.

My husband is in the Canadian version of Who's Who. It's a scam to get you to buy an expensive hard-copy edition of the publication, and he hasn't succumbed yet. I read all three entries at one pop, not having logged in all day, and I just loved your tale of the lost weekend. I really miss making music with people like that. Oh, and I loved the Socrates course evaluations. Very funny.

I, for one, got the joke. I've gotten these in the mail before and find them very amusing. Especially because I've never done anything to merit inclusion.

I got the joke, too. Mostly, because I was IN a Who's Who. My sophomore year of high school, one of my teachers (this is painful, because otherwise I really respected him) "nominated" me. For what, I do not know.
