Geez. Now I remember why I left Diaryland. Maybe you can bring your community with you when you move? If it's the monitoring of updated feeds you like, have you tried Bloglines?

Oh I hear you! I am working on a new site at wordpress. Had a problem and emailed tech support. Got a nice reply back within HOURS! Once I leave here, there's no looking back. Once I figure out how everything works (my techno retardation), I'm golden. Really, once you link everyone up in a blogroll - or even a basic link - it's not hard to keep tabs on people. That's the whole point of the internet, isn't it? A new day's coming!

I feel your grief. But I don't want to leave Diaryland myself, even though many of the friends I have made here over the years have either left already, are in the process of packing up, or just threatening. It feels like home. None of the other places where I blog, either regularly or sporadically, feel the same.

Huh. I just tried to post a comment here but it never uploaded. I've been lucky not to face the d-land problems (away during the d-land brown-outs; no troubles with other features simply because I'm a surface user). But just like claudia, I've heard of people moving over to wordpress. If we move, we should move as a community!

Abandon ship! I re-upped my gold membership solely to recapture some pictures...this place has been barely functional for years now and Andrew's protestations that he's "just one guy " ring hollow to me because he's one guy who is making loads of money off services he promises but doesn't provide. Come to the dark side, m'lady.

I'll look into wordpress, but I'm leaning towards blogspot, just because I have another (albeit neglected) blog over there and I already read a lot of blogs there, many from diaryland defectors (laura and fairly, I'm looking at you!). I haven't tried bloglines, but I do use blogrolling occasionally. If I had a blogroll set up on a main page, I'd be more likely to use it. I read more and more widely these days, but I agree with you elgan, that diaryland has felt like home. But at the moment, it's feeling like a highly dysfunctional home that should perhaps be abandoned for some therapy elsewhere. And teranika, I did get your previous comment. It got posted to one of the other NINE posts that stupid diaryland put up once I finally got through.

I haven't had that much of an issue, and I'd hate for anyone to leave, because I have a hard time keeping track of defectors without notify lists or emails. It just doesn't happen, and I worry they may not find me. And then there's the archives, which I like in a handy dandy place. Also also, I think the other places look TOO generic. So while it's not about me, I don't want to lose someone or lose good contact with someone. Dig?

Come to the darkside.... I have had zero problems with Blogger. The only thing I miss about Diaryland Gold is the tracking feature. It was always funny to see what searches brought people in.

I feel your pain, this week I was trying to clean up old entries and it was taking for. ever. I have a livejournal for braindump but it won't work as my main spot. Who do we turn to? I kind of don't like how you have to have a blogger account to leave comments on some blogspot diaries, but I guess that's just a (wrong) user preference.
